The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Havaldar Recruitment to fill vacancies in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN). Eligibility Criteria

Nationality:

A candidate must be either:

A citizen of India, or

A subject of Nepal, or

A subject of Bhutan, or

A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limit:

18-27 years as of August 1, 2024 (Candidates born not before August 2, 1997, and not later than August 1, 2006).

Age relaxation is applicable as per government norms, such as 5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC candidates, 10 years for PwBD candidates, etc.

Educational Qualification:

The candidate must have passed Matriculation (10th Standard) or equivalent from a recognized board.

Salary and Pay Scale

The Havaldar posts are classified under Pay Level-1 as per the Pay Matrix of the 7th Pay Commission. The pay scale ranges from Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 56,900 per month, along with various allowances as per the government norms.

Exam Pattern

The SSC Havaldar Examination consists of two papers:

Paper-I: Computer-Based Examination

Numerical Aptitude

General Awareness

Duration: 90 minutes

Number of Questions: 100 (25 from each section)

Maximum Marks: 100 (Each question carries 1 mark)

Paper-II: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) / Physical Standard Test (PST)

PET Criteria:

Male: Walk 1600 meters in 15 minutes.

Female: Walk 1 km in 20 minutes.

PST Criteria:

Male: Height – 157.5 cm, Chest – 76 cm with a minimum expansion of 5 cm.

Female: Height – 152 cm, Weight – 48 kg.

Syllabus

General English:

Basics of English Language, Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence Structure, Synonyms, Antonyms, and its correct usage.

General Intelligence & Reasoning:

Questions designed to test the candidate’s abilities in reasoning and analytical skills, such as analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision-making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, etc.

Numerical Aptitude:

Number Systems, Computation of Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions, Relationship between Numbers, Fundamental Arithmetical Operations, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Use of Tables and Graphs, Mensuration, Time and Distance, Ratio and Time, Time and Work, etc.

General Awareness:

Current Events, India and its Neighboring Countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research, etc.

Application Fee

The application fee for General and OBC candidates is Rs. 100.

There is no fee for SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-servicemen and female candidates.
